Thanks to all who've answered my newbie questions thus far. Everything ( Ha ! ) now seems to be in order, and I've run up and down a private road a few hundred yards, and managed to get into 3rd. Steers OK at low speed, but front brake feels weak and has little bite. Rear is fine. Battery doesn't appear to be charging, but that's not critical.
Plan is to go for a more extensive test with a friend in a van following just in case.
How do the valve stems get lubrication ? As delivered there was a coating of white grease on the springs, but I'm not sure if that was just to stop them rusting during storage. Someone suggested a periodic squirt with chain lube.
What does everybody do ?
And tyre pressures ?
Hi! 1935 Model 9, I suppose. My 1937 Model 9 inlet valve is lubricated by the rocker box whereas the exhaust by the exhaust gas. Tyre pressure about 2.2 to 2.4 bar. Cheers, Thomas

If you look at the picture there are 2 raised bosses in front of the 2 top bolt holes.
Short tubes are fitted into these holes that engage into 2 holes in the head and lubricate the valve stems.
This is the case for 1932 to 1935 bikes.
