Title: Oil Regulator
Post by: StanStan on March 03, 2025, 04:00:42 PM
The 3 position regulator on my '35 Model 9 seems to be jammed in position 3, which many say will led to over oiling. Not knowing its internals, I didn't want to force it. Someone at the Shepton Mallet show said it's on a taper with the small end uppermost, and that with a gentle downward tap (sic) it should pop out. Clean and reassemble and the job's a good 'un.

Can someone confirm before I get on the tools ?

That is correct if you have a standard 3 way tap. The pressure of the spring can make them bind if they are left in the same position.
I had the exact same enquiry from a member last year.
The handbooks I have state ' 1 is for town use, 2 for open road and 3 for fast work' . I have mine on 2 all the time, cruising at 50 = mph is no problem.
