I think you'll be pleasantly surprised - mine doesn't drip any grease at all. What little does get out tends to be caught by the chain and is retained by the chainguard.
The rack was made out of fairly thin walled steel tube and brazed - strong enough to take a picnic basket but I wouldn't carry a person on it

Lubrication with grease is an interesting concept and I am curious to see the first spots on my workshop floor.  Interesting article about it. I will read it asap. I already have such a bum pad seat at my BSA. BAP is the model/version of the gearbox, Thomas. The same box is used by Vincent (hence the availability of expensive spares  ) along with Panther and the Ariel Square 4 - though I believe that the mainshaft does come in various lengths so are not interchangeable.
Being grease filled there is no drain or level plug for the box as such. The factory recommendation is to fill the box with the specified amount and any excess will eventually find its own way out as there are no proper oil seals fitted, though it is possible to fit one at the mainshaft output. Just top the box up with a bit more grease every so often. The grease nipples were provided for getting lubrication to pivots in the box that may otherwise miss out on their own supply.

I can't help with the power output of the engine I'm afraid, though I'm sure there'll be someone else along shortly who will.
With regard to carriers, I made my own. There was someone on ebay uk making vintage veteran carriers at one time who may be able to help.
Pillion 'perches', I wouldn't necessarily endow them with the term 'seat' as that would imply some degree of comfort is provided  were available from suppliers such as this one -

If you search around you may come across a more luxurious version that was fitted with coil springs.

Yes, I have seen the plate on the box (what is ,BAP'?). Is this the regular filling procedure considering the grease nipples and considering the general Sunbeam easy maintenance design? At my much smaller C11 gearbox there is a filling hole, one for draining and one which limits the oil level. How is all this done with a Burman box? I mean, what goes in must come out. It is a mystery for me.

You're right with the modern grease qualities, of course. Hence, I ordered the Fuchs stuff. Good idea to add some SAE140. Yes, I heard about worn teeth. Luckily, mine are still in good shape as is the bike as a whole. Do you have an idea about the machine power? Is it 20 hp or 22? I need that for the registration and it is not written in the papers.

Do you have any suggestion for the pillion seat and/or rack? Every idea is appreciated!

That's a fine looking machine you have. Congratualtions.
I have a 1937 Sunbeam Lion with the same Burman BAP gearbox. There is an inspection plate hidden away on top of the gearbox under the oil tank that you can use for topping up the gearbox. It is difficult to get at but not impossible. I use Penrite semi-fluid grease in mine (though I'm sure that the Fuchs grease will be just as good, and probably better than that available in 1937  ) and I also add a good squirt of SAE 140 grade oil just to make sure that the grease gets to everywhere it should reach.

I did have problems with my gearbox initially when I found it was very noisy in 2nd and 3rd. This proved to be wear on the teeth, possibly caused by it being used with worn layshaft bushes for many years. New parts are difficult and expensive to find so it is worth making sure that there is plenty of lubrication in there.

Hello together, since two weeks I am the proud owner of a 1937 Model 9, Series 2 which is now with me in Cologne/Germany. I was already able to kick the machine on (wow) and will register it next week. Having a 1946 BSA C11 and being a Sunbeam newby I will have a lot of questions which can possibly be answered in this forum. Attached are some pictures.

My first questions:

I have a 4speed Burman gearbox and I am surprised that it has only grease nipples for semi-fluid grease (right?). What grease is recommended? The manual says "Castrolease Medium, Gargoyle Mobilgrease No. 2, Shell Motor Grease Soft, Belmoline D, Essogrease".
