Hi Paul! I followed your advice and adjusted the brake before tightening the wheel spindle (and filed chamfers to the shoes). Here we go, the stuttering is gone. So, thank you very much! I now wonder what in details happens when doing that. I thought the two shoes centralise automatically.

Two things you could try:

1. Make sure there is a chamfer on the leading end of each shoe, and
2. When you tighten the nut securing the brake plate to the spindle, pull the brake on as you do it to ensure the shoes are centralized to the drum. I also do this when I tighten the spindle nuts.

Has anyone ever had a "stuttering" front brake, i.e. when the brake is applied, the fork swings at the rhythm of the wheel rotation? That's exactly what I'm experiencing right now. I have sanded the brake shoes, the drum is round and everything else is as it should be. When braking hard this is quite unpleasant.
