Between the inner primary case and crankcase is a cavity sealed by a gasket. There is always a small amount of oil when opening it. I now wonder of what use this cavity is. Because there is a dynamic seal on the crankshaft it might be a reservoir for the primary case oil bath but if that is true I do not understand its function.
